Gadabout | Part 3

I have saved up so much goodness that this one is longer than the first two! There are a ton of interesting items for you to check out. Without further ado, a reminder since it’s been a minute…

Gadabout is an assortment of what I come across that I think is good enough to pass on to you. It’s sort of like “Faves & Finds” or “Books & Screen”, but doesn’t have a theme, which those posts are based on. It has no theme at all.

IT’S A LIST OF GREAT STUFF, PLACES, inspiration, SONGS, NEWS, QUOTES, STORIES, ETC!

Gadabout - n. - a habitual pleasure seeker; an explorer or rambler; one who roves about in search of amusement, moving aimlessly from one thing to another

Here’s today’s list - click on highlighted text for links to the info.

  • Contained Creations - one of my favorite instagram accounts is now one of my favorite websites! Steph Green is local to RVA and is so very talented. She does bespoke container gardening and now has a website with lots of how to info, recipes and courses. I loved her fall container class and look forward to new winter and spring courses coming soon!

  • If you are updating your kitchen, one of the easiest ways is with paint. And one of the most popular colors for kitchen cabinets is white or a combination of white and another color. This is a great post on The Zhush about the 10 best kitchen cabinet paint colors from the experts.

  • Here is a link to $20 off your order at Lyssé. They have great pieces for travel and comfortable living, especially bottoms. I have their faux suede leggings, thanks to a head’s up from my friend Cindy Hattersley, and am coveting these and these.

  • A great article on where and how to sell your used furniture that your kids don’t want!

  • I want to try this makeup setting spray. It would be great to have for an event that is hours long, like a wedding. Also, for anything out in the weather, where you are trying not to look like a drippy mess in heat or rain.

  • Here’s a sunny wintry pick-me-up in Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles - a fun and colorful Florida home.

  • Also from Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, a seamless addition and a gorgeous refresh for a local iconic home.

  • This is such a great gift idea for an older gentleman (or woman) - especially if he’s a history buff! It’s a monthly delivery of history's biggest moments and most meaningful figures. This box curates detailed replicas of historical documents, along with context to provide a hands-on window into the past. I first saw it on Uncommon Goods and I was planning on getting this for my dad, before his dementia progressed.

  • Great inspiration for us late bloomers or anyone who is worried that it’s too late for your big plans. I firmly agree with the author - “it’s never too late to become yourself.”

  • This non-toxic, non-stick cookware is my favorite. I can’t say enough about it. The ceramic coated cookware and bakeware is not outrageously expensive, is very attractive, is much healthier for you than Teflon coated pans and cleans up like a dream.

  • While we’re talking pans, I love this concept for pie baking! Never struggle with a pie debate again, with two flavors in a single pan!

  • I follow Cookie + Kate, which is a whole foods website. She has tons of great recipes. These two I have found particularly helpful, in avoiding commercial salad dressings. (They are made with seed oils, which are not great for you.) I love her Italian Dressing and Balsamic Vinaigrette recipes, but there are several more good ones!

  • This is an interesting story about a 34 year old woman who decided not to go the traditional route with her diagnosis of an autoimmune spinal disease. She is now living symptom free and is an advocate of alternative treatments and non-toxic living.

  • Architectural Digest shows us the wonderful set for White Lotus Season 2, which filmed in Sicily at the San Domenico palace, near Mount Etna. Did you know that Mount Etna is an active volcano and can be seen spewing lava in several scenes?! Chip says it’s photoshopped in there, but I don’t know…

  • This Phyto7 hydrating hair cream has great reviews for help with dry frizzy hair. You can get it from several places and maybe locally, but I linked to Amazon - it has the most reviews and questions answered.

  • Love this colorblocked quilted coat from Summersalt. The swimwear brand has branched out to clothing, and this cute coat is now 50% off!

  • These notepads are so fun and would be a great gift for someone who loves pretty paper or is an office supply nut, like yours truly. 🤣

  • This is an interesting and informative story from NPR about what the sugar industry did 50 years ago - paid scientists to point the blame away from the role sugar plays in heart disease. One reason the food pyramid started out like it did.

  • A delightful tour of one of the late Furlow Gatewood’s houses in Americus, Georgia. He had a brilliant style and taste in antiques. He was a friend of Bunny Williams and her hubby, John Rosselli. If you have never read the book about his compound, One Man’s Folly by Julia Reed, it is wonderful.

  • This reading light is a lifesaver for me. Reading helps put me to sleep but it wakes/keeps Chip up. So I have tried several lighting ideas and this one is the best. It’s great for the plane and for hotel rooms without one!

  • I am really interested in trying this solid body stone. It is a moisterizer with no plastic packaging and wasted product at the bottom. It’s also mostly cocoa butter and other plant based oils and butters, as traditional lotion is 80% water, with chemicals added. Seems like it would be great after a shower or warm bath.

  • An interesting article about how to maintain lifelong intelligence, focus and mental agility - losing those things as you age may not be inevitable . It comes down to The Big Three…”you will someday be the result of what you do today!”
