The River House Part III | Updates

The River House - back deck before Lifting, Circa 2010

When we last looked at the River House, it was lifted up in the air and then put back on it’s new foundation.

If you haven’t read about this house on the Chesapeake Bay, you can read Part I and Part II here!

So here’s what’s been happening since then. Update on where all the blood, sweat and tears have gotten us, thus far!

addition…

When the house was settled on it’s foundation, my brother started on an addition to the family room, with a new half bath at one end and a new mudroom/entrance at the other end.

The original screen porch on side of house.

The new den addition where porch was.

New addition adds so much light and space.

View into new mudroom and entrance.

Miles made the counter from pecan that he had milled from a huge pecan tree on the property that was taken down. Isn’t that gorgeous?

What it looks like now - nice and bright and plenty of room for a big family to hang out. This is the original furniture and the rug is on loan.

The original den.

Plastic where old den will open up into addition.

View from old den.

Puttying the holes in new shiplap.

Painting mullions.

New addition is finished after 3,983,972 hours of painting. Miles and Christen picked a really pretty light gray/blue (BM Silvery Moon) for the space and it flows well with the rest of the house.

Outside…

Damaged siding had to be replaced.

The back corner ready for a new deck.

The deck is looking good. Miles is doing a rounded edge that will be really pretty. He will have to add a small stoop in order to re-attach the original overhang.

A beautiful new river rock drive was laid down last fall.

Another shot of the graded lot.

The original condition of metal roof before painting.

The new deck is starting to take shape - it will have to be higher than the old one.

Also last fall, Miles and Christen seeded the newly graded lot. A huge job. You can see the newly painted roof in this shot. The house has also been painted and looks amazing. Next up on outside of house is re-attaching the gutters and new shutters.

The upstairs porch. The screening was taken off and we got some new furniture for it. The pillows came from Frontgate and the cushions and caned tables came from World Market. (No longer available.) The chairs came from Plow & Hearth.

The Downstairs full bath

Befores…

During & After…

New shower stall and new shower tile and floor tile. My mom wanted a gray tile that mimicked wood.

Shower tile and plumbing fixtures are up. You can see the pretty shower floor here - a simple hexagonal tile.

New vanity and mirror/medicine cabinet.

I don’t have it pictured, but this print is hanging in the bathroom…it’s 12” x 18”

…as is this one, which is an unframed giclee and is 30” x 30”. They both came from Ballard Designs.

New floor tile. This was actually done before the house was lifted and survived it intact! Yay!

New glass shower door and surround.

New wallpaper over the shiplap.

Downstairs Half Bath

This is the new half bath that was added at one end of the new addition. It opens into a downstairs bedroom. This way, whoever is staying in that room, doesn’t have to share the bathroom with a houseful of people! It’s great for my parents.

Window over the potty. Next time I will show this finished!

Yay! Walls and floor!

Exciting huh? On the left is the bedroom and behind the right wall is the addition to the den.

I think I will save the upstairs for my next update. That’s a fun one - lots of befores and afters. There is always something being built, added, painted or fixed down there! Like I said last time, Miles and Christen are there working hard all the time. But that hard work is really paying off. The place is returning to it’s former glory! Stay tuned for Part IV sometime soon.

Thanks for reading and my next post will be announcing the Posh Box Winner, my survey results and some gorgeous wintry Whitten Skies for you.
