I actually wore a sweatshirt today. Imagine that! Fall is fast approaching and I’m back with more finds from the internets. More great things for your fall trip, the next MahJongg game or your upcoming tailgate!
Enjoy these fall finds for ladies over 55. We will talk about how to enter fall smartly - what to wear right now while it’s still warmish, and what’s out there for colder days. What is trending that is fun and you might actually consider, to update and upgrade your closet?
Strategy…
Make a list of what you need to replace, what you don’t have, and get rid of things you don’t wear or that don’t fit. And only buy what’s on that list, unless you can’t live without something!
Find a place locally that will resell/donate/recycle your old things.
Make a list of great outfits that you can make with what is hanging in your closet. (See the image at the end of this post - my bulletin board in my closet with inspiration and easy looks.)
And here’s the all important question I ask before I buy anything - “Where will I wear this?”
Make a wish list for sale watching, if it’s out of your price range.
Here’s what’s big for fall this year…
Stripes - well of course. They’re always good.
Rugby tops - preppy is always fun. I’ve worn many a popped collar.
Fringe - sorta cowgirl, sorta boho. Gotta be in the mood and can’t be too crazy.
Brown. Purple. Wine. Olive. - brown of course and on the other three - depends on the shade. I do love green…
Suede - well duh….
Corduroy - see above…
Brocades & Jacquards - love this. Have to find a way to make it casual - I have no dressy events coming up.
Bandana Prints - Love this one! These will never really go out of style.
I think my favorite looks for fall are at Sezane! Love lots of things. I may replace a few things with less pricey items from there. See below!

What to wear right now
I wore this skirt to Sicily with a tee. It was very comfy and I can now wear it with a black linen blouse, or a black crewneck sweater and boots when the weather turns. The skirt also comes in other great prints - including this!

These are handsome and get really good ratings for comfiness. I don’t have these, I have the Greta Ballet Flats that I have been raving about forever. They feel like slippers. However, the wonderful woven suede Gretas are sold out in every color! 🫤
Stripes for the Win! It also comes in a pretty burgundy stripe.
From Paris Market - how pretty are these? These are also understated and nice.
Love these suede loafers and you know they are comfy if they are Gentle Souls.
Just a great looking dress if you are in need. Boden.
A great chambray blouse from Sezane. Maybe not for you if you have short arms, like moi.
How nice is this for a fall wedding? I even like it with the suede boots it is styled with! It’s a splurge but a great dress.
Actually this is so great for right now. Comes in a bunch of colors and is a good value. Has LOTS of pockets and nooks. And what a GREAT color. I saved and got this last year.

I love a tee in fall colors and stripes are still great. This is great with navy or denim right now. Add a denim jacket later. You can wear it next spring with white denim. Don’t worry - it isn’t cropped. The model is 8 feet tall.
I love Mille for their prints. This one is pretty and says “FALL”!
I think Modern Citizen has some very chic styles that are super simple and work with your wardrobe. Lots of great layering pieces, of which this is one!
From Farm Rio - I know you’ve probably seen this on fashion roundups. This print is super popular. I just think the blouse in particular is so different and pretty. You could wear it 3 seasons really.
LOOVE these! Got them last year, the price is great and they are very comfy. And they are wide! They run large though.
This is such a great striped tee from AYR. I have it in more spring and summer colors. Great with a vneck cotton sweater over it.
If you have somewhere special to go and you can rock sleeveless…this is your dress.

I always like a great dress. One and done. Great with mules now and boots later.
Another great poplin striped shirt from Madewell. This one, you may need to wear a tee or cami under it - depending on how short or long waisted you are!

This comes in several great colors. From Gap. I like the traditional navy.
Love this little crossbody bag from Quince. And the price is right. Also comes in a pretty cognac!
Rugby is back. At least for the time being. It is never really out of style - this one is a wonderful cotton/cashmere blend. Comfy!
Sezane has the nicest blouses. Actually this falls’ looks are just great. Best collection in a while! This fall, they are awash in beautiful white blouses and shirtings. If you are in need, this is the place to go.

One last gorgeous dress for a special occasion, in a very wearable color. Comes in lots of other fabrics as well.
From Boden - for $99. A great little jersey dress - with tights and flats now and boots later. Love it.

Quince has fantastic pieces for the price. This cashmere/cotton blend looks toasty.

I have this sweater - very flattering and several nice colors.
I know it’s early for puffers, but if you need a new one this year - I highly recommend this one. I have it in white! It has worn well, it washes well, it is priced right and keeps me toasty - all with huge pockets!

A no brainer - this is cashmere, so not itchy and comes in several colors. Great price.

From Gentle Souls - one of my favorite sources for shoes and boots. I need a new pair of short black suede booties.
Quince has great basics for great prices. Most of the time, they wear well too. Any jacket I have gotten from them, has.
Yummy. I have a great brown coat that I never wear. This might fix that.
Another no brainer - get it larger so it doesn’t cling. Add boots and a cool jacket = instant look.

Also from Sezane. Pricey but you are getting an alpaca sweater and large scarf as well.
I have these in black. So comfortable - again from Gentle Souls. (Thank you Cindy Hattersley.) I need a taupe/tan pair and these will fit the bill.

How cozy? The heel = 2.25 inches. Comes in black too.

This shoe feels like a slipper. LIKE BUTTAH! Ask for it for Christmas or luck out and get it on a sale…it is a best seller. That shows you how good it is - a best seller at this price. I have one pair that I got for Christmas last year and I will wear them until they fall apart.
This is the bulletin board I put in my closet. I have seasonal looks that I see online and print out. They are easy looks that I can copy, from my current closet!
