Traveling to The Cape & More
I was fortunate to tag along on another trip, this time to iconic Cape Cod. How fun - we had never been. And since we are now living in the Mid-Atlantic rainforest, the cooler temps were wonderful. We stayed at the Chatham Bars Inn for the duration of the trip and it was just lovely. The food was good too - maybe not the best we had on the cape, but very good. Chatham Bars refers to the sand bars that are in front of the Inn’s beach. So serene - I read 2 books while I was there. And it was a only 10 minute walk to town.
Most of the rooms are spread around the property in cottages like the one above. The grounds were storybooklike. I haven’t seen so many bright colors and flowering shrubs at one place in awhile. They must love those cool nights and sunny days. I can’t imagine what hydrangea/petunia budget is for the place…
The Main Inn building has been there for over 100 years, built in 1914. It is right on the water - they would never get away with that today. It was completely renovated in 2006. Just gorgeous.

The Inn sits on 25 acres and has its’ own private beach with the quintessential New England view. I was waiting for Jaws to glide by… When you stay there, you are in the heart of the most charming seaside town on the point - Chatham. And it is close to most of what you would want to see. We did not see the parts closer to Boston, but stayed out on the ocean side.

We ate at most of the restaurants on site. The Inn has its’ own farm, so it truly is a farm to table experience. It also has field dining on the farm as well.
It was our anniversary while we were there, so we ate at their fine dining restaurant - Stars.
We also had dinner at 28 Atlantic, which is at the Wequaussett Inn up the coast from Chatham in Harwick. A gorgeous place and the food was divine.
But maybe my favorite meal was at The Impudent Oyster in Chatham. Awesome. Fun place and super great food.
This is one of the outfits I took that was very similar to what I packed for La Jolla.
We drove up to Provincetown on our first day and it was booming. A rowdy crew, and lots of fun. We ate lunch at The Lobster Pot. If you go - eat outside!! Better view and atmosphere. There are so many artists and galleries - I was really tempted to buy more art that I don’t need. A gorgeous day and we walked up and down the pier and the main drag…

Great shopping - I found some wine glasses that I have been looking for! (Look familiar Amy O?) These were a wonderful Provincetown home goods shop called Shor. They have an online shop also!
We visited the Cape Cod National Seashore on a gorgeous afternoon.

The Inn was a 10 minute walk to the little downtown area in Chatham, which had adorable shops. And the walk was like a home and garden tour….Walk with me…..
More Eating, Seeing and Shopping…
Restaurants…
At the Chatham Bars Inn, there is also The Veranda with a great view. And adjacent to the propert is the Chatham Fish Pier Market, complete with great lobster rolls and cute seals.
Other spots that our group recommended in Chatham were Cuvee (French), Del Mar Bar & Bistro, and Mac’s Chatham. We had a quick lunch at Public Cafe and that was great.
If you are in Provincetown, Ceraldi’s gets good write ups (Italian), and The Canteen for lunch.
Supposedly the best ice cream on the cape is Sundae School in Dennisport, and the best lobster roll is also in Dennisport - Sesuit Harbor Cafe. I have no proof.
To Do…
Also to visit is the Beachcomber Restaurant and Cahoon Hollow Beach, on the coast, the Chatham Lighthouse and beach, near the Inn, and a ride down Shore Road to gawk at the houses and gardens.
If you are staying at the Inn, they have several boats that you can reserve to go whalewatching, shark watching, shuttle out to the barrier beaches, fishing, sailing, enjoy evening cruises and you can even charter a boat over to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket!
And then there’s Sandwich, Woods Hole, Dennisport, Hyannisport, Mashpee, Yarmouth, Barnstable and more.
Shopping in Chatham…
Main Street is awash in cute shops. The Mayflower, Eastbred (my fave - fab clothing), The Fisherman’s Daughter, Where the Sidewalk Ends ( cutest bookstore - mother and daughter), Cinder & Salt, and my other favorite, The Chatham Home.
What to pack for a june Visit to cape cod…
Look familiar? I packed a lot of the same things I packed in May for La Jolla. Very similar weather on some days. Cotton sweaters, linen pants, tees and sneakers. And flip flops.
