ANOTHER new series that I’ve been wanting to do. I’m going to bring you along into my closet, where I am styling pieces for the season.
I will be styling 1) pieces that I have in my closet that are great, but never get worn, and 2) brand new pieces that I have just gotten. Come along with me into my hard working closet… It’s not that big, so I can’t have things just taking up space! The idea is to get jazzed about the great things I already own! And this time it brought to light a couple things that I need.
And I apologize in advance for the picture quality and my squirrelly hair! Let’s just say I won’t be a professional model or photographer, just yet…
styling New Items
I got this great Boden sweater for fall - now what to wear it with? (It’s on sale now!) Shouldn’t be hard…
This was my favorite look from everything I tried on. I already owned the Madewell shirt, suede Madewell mary janes, and the Anthro cords.
I also like the look with this old turtleneck from Kule, but forgot to take a pic.
I also liked the sweater with this old bracelet from Posh.
New Steve Madden flats. I love green so these will probably get worn a lot.
I liked them with this sleeveless sweater vest, which are all the rage at Sezane this season. And white shirt and these wide leg BR jeans, which I also like.
I will wear them with tights and skirts or dresses too. These are easy to incorporate.
Got this sweater from Quince - loving blue and brown this season! This is super comfy cotton cashmere and is oversized. I like the fit.
I paired it with some Pilcro flared jeans that I love and called it done! Also great with full length brown corduroys. Forgot a pic.
Have been wanting a Collette pant in green corduroy for a while and they only offered them with a scalloped pocket this year. I will make do until I find some without.
I paired them with last year’s Sezane blouse and my brown Mary Janes.
Also liked them with a Boden sweater from last year. If it’s cold enough to wear that sweater, I would probably be wearing boots, though. Need some brown booties!
jazzing up Older Items
This is a great Etcetera skirt that zips up the back. I have had it for over 20 years. For awhile, I couldn’t get it zipped. But after I lost a lot of weight a few years ago, it is back in rotation. It’s a classic, in excellent condition, but never gets worn.
For an earlier fall look, I liked it with these leopard booties, black tights, a short sleeve turtleneck, and pretty scarf that I got on a trip. My legs are so bad, I ALWAYS wear tights if no sun on my legs.
Leopard print shirt (old from J Crew), black tights, and last years chunky tassel loafers from Gentle Souls. They are on sale!
This look is a classic and easy to pull together from anyone’s closet! Mango blazer, my favorite basic white blouse, scarf at neck, and my old Coach riding boots. Never not classy.
Speaking of this blazer. This is my own little Veronica Beard hack from a few years back. I love Veronica Beard blazers, but they don’t fit into my budget. SO I got this look alike blazer - same cut and fabric composition - from Mango, for $99. The buttons were horrible - tacky silver blobs. So I ordered nice real brass ones, and replaced the ugly ones. The nice button set was $125 (it’s more now), and so my blazer looks like the real thing for about $500 less. Yay Me! 🤑
This blouse I got several years ago from Modern Citizen. I love it but I never wear it - probably because it’s sleeveless. I don’t think my arms are that bad, but I do feel better when they are covered in the winter.
Here it is with said blazer and a collection of brooches on the lapel. Also wearing my favorite AYR jeans, and my great Gentle Souls booties.
what is going on with my hair? tragic
Here I paired it with some older A&F vegan leather pants. You can’t really see my feet, but I’m wearing my Ann Taylor suede pumps. I still wear them here and there. I love Ann Taylor for dressier shoes like that - they are reasonably priced.
An older Boden sweater that I hardly ever reach for. Let’s change that.
I put it with other older items - blue cashmere sweater over shoulders, my great white blouse, my AYR jeans, and booties again.
And I put my hair out of it’s misery.
These are two things I pulled out, and realized I liked them together. Go figure?! They have both been in my “sell pile” several times.
Same white blouse and great jeans - they are the common denominator for many great outfits!
In trying on all these things, I also found that I need two things to fill in holes.
A black crewneck cashmere sweater. I will probably get this from Quince.
Everything highlighted today, is still available for purchase and is in my ShopMy shop.
